The Usual Suspects

As much as I enjoy the ritual of putting on makeup, when I'm rushing in the morning, I gravitate towards this bunch to give a face that makes me a bit more socially acceptable. These products have yet to fail me.

This old and sadly discontinued palette from Ever Bilena has the most amazing brown shadow I've come across in a while. It's a warm brown with golden sheen to it and its consistency is buttery and blends like an absolute dream. I used to go through the motions of defining my non-existent crease with a matte brown shadow, but a wash of this across my lids rids me of that process. Depending on how you blend or pack it on, it makes you look like you have 3 different shadows on. I love blending it along my lower lashline as well to balance it out to get a gorgeous brown smoky eye in 3 minutes.

To add that extra oomph, I use these Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Black and Bronze- a gift from my sister when she had a trip to London. Although they're not entirely smudge-proof, they do stay on and they wear out beautifully throughout the day. I use the Black to tightline my upper waterline and I use the Bronze, which essentially the pencil version of that brown EB shadow, along my lower lash line.

Mascara is an absolute must for me. I honestly feel naked without a coat or two on my lashes. Since I have pin-straight lashes that need that extra bit of help when I curl them, I find that water-poof formulas help keep them up. This EB Advance Waterproof Mascara does the trick. Loading two to three coats of this on my upper and lower lashes really helps frame my eyes and finishes off my eye makeup.

Moving down to cheeks, I've steered away from the pinks and the peaches and I've been sporting a flushy red for a couple of months now, and this Careline blush in Starlight Shine really does the trick. It's a brownish-red blush with a slight peachy undertone and has a very slight sheen that doesn't make my face look too flat. This blush is really pigmented too so you need the tiniest amount and then a light hand when you brush it on your face. I like taking this along the bridge of my nose for that "I just did a jog and I feel great" look. (FYI: I don't jog and I don't feel great when I jog. So yeah- thanks blush!)

Do I even need to explain why this Shu Uemura eyelash curler is amazing? Yeah, I didn't think so.

This matte lipstick from Ever Bilena (are you sensing a pattern here?) in Viva renewed my love for pink lipsticks. I can swipe this on lightly for a My Lips But Better tinge or go full on with a couple of coats. A real pick-me-upper when I feel a bit drab.

Surprise, surprise it's another Ever Bilena product and- I'm not even kidding- it's the best compact used I've used. I can even go as far as to say that this is the best powder I've used. This Powder Foundation in Oriental is the perfect yellow-based powder I've come across (Yes, even better than the Ben Nye Banana Powder). It's not too yellow and it's not too pale- it blends so well with my skin tone and, even if my skin is crazy acidic, it doesn't discolour as bad as other powders. This keeps me and my T-zone very happy.

Despite its applaudable coverage, I've had a love-hate relationship with this Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. Although this is the 2nd tube I've purchased, I couldn't get the hang of blending this properly without the fear of caking. That is until I came across this tiny Noconi Brush (I forgot to take a photo- d'oh!). Holy crapola this is a match made in heaven. I dot this creamy concealer on and press it with the brush and oh my gosh it blends the product so well. Now I can get my coverage without out the cake.

Last but not the least, my most recent purchase and my all-around lip saver. This tube of Vaseline Lip Therapy is basically Miracle in a Tube. When the rainy season hits the Philippines and it gets a wee bit chilly, my lips decide to pull and Angeline Jolie and puff up like mad. I'm taking super dry, chapped, burned along the edges bad. There are times where I look like I have brown lip-liner around my lips.  I purchased this on a whim when my Carmex, EOS and good ol' petroleum jelly couldn't cut it anymore. I am not kidding when I tell you that after two days of using this baby, the ugly, gross skin started peeling off (TMI!) and revealed soft, rehydrated lips. I don't know why this is better than my petroleum jelly in a tube when they're made up of the exact same thing, but I don't care. This is amazing and I am converted.

Although I love these products to bits, I think it's about time I mix it up. Send in your suggestions if you have a makeup beauty challenge you'd like me to do- like trying on a different color or product- and maybe I can do it!
